Embora sem adoptar um tom catastrofista, o Nobel da Economia traça, no seu conhecido blog ("The Conscience of a Liberal"), um quadro negro para a situação económico-financeira de Portugal, neste post. Destaco as seguintes passagens:
"Greece seems to be spiraling over the edge into default; I just don’t know how it steps back from that edge now. Might it also leave the euro? That would be a total mess, inviting the mother of all bank runs, although [...] that may be happening anyway. Now, Portugal. Scary spike in bond yields [...]. Portugal’s budget woes aren’t nearly as severe, on the surface, as Greece’s. But it had a big real estate bubble, and now the market thinks the banks are in trouble. But if the banks have to be rescued, however, this would hit the budget hard."
